Italian Carved Wooden Wall Panel by Gianni Pinna, 1970s

$4,400.00

A monumental Italian wall panel by Gianni Pinna, hand-carved in the 1970s. Over six feet in height, the single plank is worked in deep relief with geometric motifs cut by the sculptor’s hand and softened by a rich, warm patina. Versatile in its application, this piece can be displayed as a wall sculpture in a hallway or stair landing, installed horizontally as architectural wall trim, or adapted into a wall-mounted console with the addition of a glass shelf.

Gianni Pinna (1934–2016) was born in Guspina, Sardinia, and trained in sculpture at the art schools of Turin and Milan. Beginning in the 1970s, he exhibited widely across Italy and abroad, with early shows in San Francisco at the Feingarten Galleries (1976–77). His practice bridged fine art and design, with sculptural forms often translated into furniture and architectural elements.

A member of the Codi-Art Group alongside Pedro Fiori and Salvador Presta, Pinna’s work has been documented in leading design journals and is held in both Italian and international collections. In 2008, he was recognized with the Arts and Culture Prize, marking his lasting contribution to 20th-century Italian art and design.
