An Italian illuminated coffee table from the 1970s, attributed to Goffredo Reggiani, where polished chrome and light come together in a distinctly Space Age composition.

The form is built from two overlapping circular sections in chromed metal, creating a low, sculptural silhouette with a sense of movement across its precise geometry. A glass surface floats above the structure, allowing the metallic body and its illumination to remain visible beneath.

The defining detail is the series of vertical openings that encircle the body. When illuminated, light passes through these narrow intervals in rhythmic bands, casting a warm, almost kinetic glow across the surrounding floor and walls. The reflective chrome amplifies the effect, transforming the table from a functional surface into an object of light.

The proportions keep the piece close to the ground, giving it the presence of a sculptural centerpiece. In a living room, the illuminated base creates an atmospheric focal point beneath the glass. His work is characterized by a distinctly modern, Space Age aesthetic, combining chrome-plated metal, opaline glass, teak, and sculptural geometric forms across table lamps, pendants, sconces, and floor lamps.

Reggiani’s designs often feature spherical, tubular, and modular elements that emphasize both function and futuristic form. During the 1970s, his company was also among the early European innovators in low-voltage halogen lighting, establishing Reggiani as an important name in Italian lighting design.
