Italian Mahogany Two-Tone Scalloped Sideboard Attributed to Paolo Buffa, 1950s

$21,000.00

An elegant Italian sideboard from the 1950s, attributed to Paolo Buffa, executed in richly figured mahogany with contrasting blonde wood. The elongated case is quietly architectural, its scalloped apron and softened edges lending movement without excess — a hallmark of Buffa’s refined classicism.

The façade is composed with disciplined symmetry: three central drawers framed by four cabinet doors, their honeyed fronts delicately adorned with floral marquetry. Patinated brass hardware — sculptural and restrained — punctuates the surface with a measured note of glamour. The contrast between warm mahogany and lighter panels creates depth and rhythm across the elevation.

Raised on sculptural, brass-capped legs, the piece achieves an uncommon lightness for its scale — a dialogue between structure and ornament that defines mid-century Italian sophistication.

The interior reveals generous shelving, offering substantial storage concealed within a composed and highly decorative form. A statement piece — equally suited to a formal dining room or gallery-like interior — that embodies the craftsmanship and quiet opulence of 1950s Italian design.
