Italian Maple Armoire with Glass Handles in the Manner of Paolo Buffa, 1940s

$10,800.00

An Italian maple armoire from the 1940s, crafted in the manner of Paolo Buffa.

The front is structured as a series of flat planes, interrupted by two vertical bands of carved square motifs that catch the light as you move past. The maple has been recently refinished, bringing out a warm, honeyed tone and subtle variation in the grain.

Original glass handles sit at the center, set with brass hardware and a working key—small details that hold the composition together.

Inside, a hanging rod runs across the upper section, with a compact chest of three drawers below, each fitted with circular pulls. A mirror is inset into one of the doors.

Along the base, a scalloped apron introduces a softer line—unexpected against the otherwise straight geometry—while tapered legs lift the piece just slightly from the floor.

There’s a quiet presence to it. Storage, but also something that holds the room.
