Italian Murano Glass Chandelier in the Manner of Angelo Mangiarotti, 1970s

$7,100.00

A 1970s Italian chandelier in the manner of Angelo Mangiarotti—an airy, sculptural cascade of interlocked Murano glass. Each element is free-formed from molten glass into a fluid loop, its contours echoing the soft pull of gravity and the maker’s hand.

The pieces hook into one another, suspended by tension and weight, forming a shimmering chainwork that reads as both architectural and organic. Hung in layered succession, the chandelier gathers into a luminous column—166 handblown links photographed here, with additional pieces included as spares.

Light filters through the textured glass, casting subtle patterns across the surrounding space. The frame has been newly updated with a custom ceiling plate, a new stem and small canopy, and nickel-plated hardware. A striking centerpiece for a dining room, foyer, or grand stairwell.

Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was a celebrated Italian architect and designer, renowned for his innovative approach to modernist design. A graduate of the Polytechnic University of Milan, Mangiarotti’s career spanned architecture, industrial design, and urban planning. He received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in 1960, recognizing his significant contributions to industrial design.

Mangiarotti often explored the relationship between form and material, using concrete, marble, glass, and wood in unexpected ways. His collaboration with the Italian furniture company Skipper, which began in the 1960s and extended into the 1970s, produced iconic pieces like the Eros table.

Mangiarotti’s work in industrial design and architecture left a lasting impact on the 20th century, influencing generations of designers and architects.
