Italian Pink Glass Oval Wall Mirror Attributed to Antonio Lupi, 1960s
An Italian oval wall mirror attributed to Antonio Lupi for Cristal Lux in the 1960s, distinguished by its warm rose-colored glass frame and decorative border. The mirror is composed of an elongated oval center surrounded by a broad frame of pink mirrored glass.
The outer border is defined by a continuous rhythm of recessed, crescent-like impressions, each creating a subtle shift in the glass surface. These repeating details introduce movement around the perimeter.
The pink glass has a warm, coppery-rose tone that changes with the surrounding light, appearing softly muted from one angle and brilliantly reflective from another. The molded impressions catch and distort reflections, creating an interplay of highlights and shadows.
A narrow, darker band separates the colored glass border from the central mirror, emphasizing the distinction between the two surfaces. The inner mirror is finished with a generous beveled edge that catches light independently of the surrounding pink glass. This layering creates a sense of depth, with the central reflection appearing almost suspended within the decorative oval.
The design reflects the experimentation with colored and decorative mirrored glass that characterized Italian interiors during the 1960s. Lupi increasingly approached mirrors as independent decorative objects, exploring how reflective surfaces could introduce color, texture, and architectural interest into a room.
