Italian Scroll Motif Brass Wall Mirror, 1950s

$4,200.00

An Italian brass wall mirror from the 1950s, defined by an elongated oval glass and an open scrollwork frame that draws a delicate outline against the wall.

Paired lengths of brass sweep around the mirror, curling inward at the shoulders and outward along the sides. At the top and bottom, matching scrolls meet to form small decorative crests, extending the silhouette beyond the glass. The arrangement is symmetrical, but the continuous movement of the metal gives it a fluid, almost drawn quality.

Space between the brass and mirror allows the wall to remain visible, lending lightness to the ornament. Four rounded brass fixings punctuate the reflective surface, small structural details that become part of the composition. Their simplicity balances the more expressive curves surrounding them.

Above an entry console, the mirror introduces height and movement. In a bedroom or along a living room wall, its oval form softens the lines of surrounding furniture. A piece whose character lies in the balance of flowing brass, open space, and aged glass, ornamental enough to establish a focal point, with a slender frame that keeps the composition airy.
