Italian Smoked Glass Wall Mirror Attributed to Veca, 1970s

$3,800.00

An Italian smoked glass wall mirror attributed to Veca from the 1970s, a large square panel of warm smoked glass forms the background, its clean edges establishing a strong geometric frame.

Suspended over it is a circular clear mirror with a beveled edge, held in place by two minimal chrome fittings positioned at the top and bottom. The hardware is deliberately visible, introducing a small industrial detail.

The contrast between circle and square gives the mirror much of its character. The central round glass appears almost to float over the darker panel, while the bevel catches light around its perimeter and adds depth without requiring a conventional frame. Reflections shift across the two surfaces differently, the clear center remaining bright and direct while the smoked glass surrounding it takes on a warmer, more atmospheric quality.

This combination of smoked glass, chrome, and precise geometric forms is closely associated with Italian interiors of the 1970s and particularly with Veca, whose mirrors and furnishings frequently explored layered glass and exposed metal fittings. Rather than treating the frame as ornament, designs of this kind use the material itself to create the decoration.
