Italian Wrought-Iron Umbrella Stand, 1960s

$1,200.00

An Italian umbrella stand from the 1960s, formed in wrought iron with a construction that feels almost woven rather than forged.

The tall cylindrical frame is built from slender iron rods that rise from the base before opening into a repeating series of deep, scalloped curves. Each section is joined with small wrapped loops, creating a rhythmic lattice that gives the piece its distinctive character. At the top, a twisted iron ring traces the perimeter, adding another layer of texture to the open framework.

Finished in green, the iron has developed an aged surface, with areas of wear and oxidation revealing the material beneath. The patina emphasizes the handmade quality of the construction, particularly at the knotted joints and curled feet, where the iron appears to fold and loop back onto itself.

At the base, a shallow gold-toned metal tray provides a warm contrast to the green iron while serving its practical purpose of catching water from umbrellas. Small scroll feet lift the tray slightly from the floor, giving the entire structure a lighter, more animated stance.

ORIGIN: Italy
