Large French 'Dora' Rock Lamp No. 02 by André Casenave for Singleton, 1969

$2,200.00

A rare, large Dora rock lamp designed by André Cazenave for Singleton in 1969, created at the intersection of sculpture and light. Crafted from a distinctive blend of polyester resin and marble powder, its softly rounded form carries the presence of a naturally weathered stone, diffusing a warm, ambient glow that recalls moonlight at dusk.

Each Dora lamp is individually hand-finished, giving every piece its own subtle variations in texture and tone. The tactile, stone-like surface celebrates organic materials while offering the durability of a sculptural object, blurring the line between functional lighting and collectible design.

Scaled to sit directly on the floor, the larger proportions allow it to anchor a room with understated presence. Styled alone, it becomes a focal point. Arranged in a cluster, the lamps create the impression of naturally scattered river stones, casting layers of soft light that transform the atmosphere of a space.

André Cazenave (1928–2003) was a French designer and sculptor, renowned for his unique lighting designs that seamlessly blend functionality with artistic expression. He is best known for his ‘Galets’ (Pebbles) lamps, which embody his philosophy of drawing inspiration from natural forms.

The ‘Dora’ light is one of Cazenave's lesser-known yet equally compelling designs, showcasing his continued fascination with organic shapes and natural aesthetics.
