Pair of French 'Aralia' Taupe Lounge Chairs by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, 1970s

$7,800.00

The 'Aralia' chair by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset is exemplifies the designer’s exploration of modular, comfortable, and visually impactful furniture. Designed in the 1970s, it features Ducaroy’s signature focus on enveloping forms. The Aralia chair is built for comfort, with a plush, deep seat and rounded backrest that invites relaxation. The chair's profile is low, similar to Ducaroy's iconic Togo design. This pair was carefully reupholstered by our team of restorationists in soft, taupe fabric.

Michel Ducaroy's collaboration with Ligne Roset is one of the most iconic partnerships in modern French furniture design, spanning decades and resulting in some of the most recognizable pieces of the 20th century. Ducaroy, trained as an industrial designer, was well-versed in upholstery, cabinetry, and design, which aligned with Ligne Roset’s forward-thinking approach to furniture. When the family-run company decided to shift towards more modern, design-forward pieces in the 1960s, Ducaroy was a natural fit.

Their collaboration is best exemplified by Ducaroy’s Togo sofa, designed in 1973. It became an emblem of the brand. This focus on modularity and comfort was a recurring theme in Ducaroy’s designs for Ligne Roset. Beyond Togo, Ducaroy created other iconic designs such as the Aralia, Kassimo, and Safi seating systems, emphasizing adaptability and comfort, with low-slung forms and plush, sculpted cushions.
