Pair of French Art Deco Glass Sconces by Degué, 1930s
A pair of French Art Deco wall sconces by Degué, dating to the 1930s, defined by the contrast between its frosted glass and nickel-plated bronze.
The molded glass shades each take on a softly rounded, elongated form, almost leaf-like in silhouette, with a luminous frosted surface that diffuses the light while revealing the dimensional pattern within.
A raised, repeating scale-like motif travels through the center of the shade, creating a layered effect as the light passes across its textured surface. Fine vertical fluting follows the outer contours, emphasizing the symmetry and giving the glass a subtle sense of movement.
The shades are held within angular cast-bronze frames, their darkened nickel-plated finish forming a strong geometric outline around the pale glass. The two arms rise diagonally from a pointed lower junction, creating a V-shaped composition that feels distinctly Art Deco.
About Degué
Degué was the Parisian art glass firm founded by David Guéron (1892–1950), a Turkish-born French entrepreneur and central figure of Art Deco glass. Established in 1926, the workshop produced lighting and decorative objects defined by bold geometry, layered glass, and experimental surface treatments, with works typically signed Degué.
Widely commissioned for cinemas, ocean liners, and modernist interiors—including the French liner Normandie—Degué became a benchmark of interwar French decorative arts.

Our White Glove service includes delivery inside the home (including one flight of stairs). Once the shippers are in your region, they will contact you beforehand to provide the delivery day and time window. Standard lead time is 3-5 weeks.
