Pair of French Wrought-Iron + Gilt Sconces, 1940s
A pair of French wrought-iron and gilt sconces from the 1940s.
Originating from Nice, the composition is centred around scrolling wrought iron, its forged curves lending movement and lightness to the structure. Gilt accents punctuate the design with moments of warmth, highlighting the decorative flourishes without overwhelming the dark patinated iron.
Twin candle-form lights extend from each sconce beneath tailored shades, casting an even, ambient glow while allowing the framework to remain the defining feature. Mounted as a pair, they naturally frame, bringing symmetry to a fireplace, hallway, bedroom, or dining room.
Even unlit, their rhythmic scrollwork creates a graphic presence against the wall.
