Rare French Convertible Wood Sofa in the Manner of Maison Regain, 1970s
A rare French convertible sofa from the 1970s, made in the manner of Maison Regain.
The wood frame is built around a slatted platform, with three seat cushions and three back cushions upholstered in a textured neutral fabric. Squared rails, projecting ends, and exposed dark fasteners remain visible throughout the construction, particularly along the layered arms and fully finished back.
What makes the sofa especially interesting is the way it converts. The front of the frame pulls forward to extend the slatted platform, while the back cushions come down alongside the seat cushions to create a large, flat sleeping surface. The side sections can also be removed when the sofa is opened, transforming the enclosed three-seat form into a low, open bed.
Measuring 80 inches wide, the sofa is substantial enough for everyday seating while incorporating a remarkably functional design. The exposed wood construction and convertible mechanism closely relate to French furniture of the 1970s, particularly the solid wood sofas and daybeds associated with Maison Regain.
About Maison Regain
Maison Regain was a French atelier active in the 1960s and '70s, celebrated for its architectural furniture. Working in the spirit of Pierre Chapo and Charlotte Perriand, the studio embraced a Brutalist ethos tempered by warmth—emphasizing pure forms, honest joinery, and the expressive grain of French hardwoods.
Each piece reflects a distinctly regional modernism: minimalist yet grounded, rustic yet exacting. Maison Regain’s work continues to resonate for its refined balance of mass, material, and restraint.

Our White Glove service includes delivery inside the home (including one flight of stairs). Once the shippers are in your region, they will contact you beforehand to provide the delivery day and time window. Standard lead time is 3-5 weeks.

In-stock inventory ships via UPS, USPS, or FedEx within 5-10 business days (excluding holidays). Rates are calculated based on the full order value, size and region.
