Swiss Leather Lounge Chair Attributed to De Sede, 1970s

$3,900.00

A Swiss leather lounge chair from the 1970s, attributed to De Sede, where form is matched by an uncompromising approach to craftsmanship.

Defined by its generous proportions and softly tufted backrest, the chair is designed to invite. The low profile, deep seat, and subtle architectural lines create a sense of effortless comfort, while the rich cognac leather has developed the character that only decades of use can produce. Natural creasing, a warm patina, and the supple hand of the hide speak to the exceptional quality of the material rather than wear alone.

That emphasis on leather has always been central to De Sede's identity. Founded in Switzerland in the 1960s, the company began as a family saddlery, applying traditional leatherworking techniques developed for equestrian craftsmanship to furniture.

Their reputation was built on selecting some of the finest full-grain hides available and working them by hand, allowing the natural qualities of the leather to remain visible rather than concealed. The result is upholstery that becomes softer and more expressive over time, aging with the same integrity as a well-made leather saddle.

Throughout its history, De Sede has collaborated with influential designers including Ubald Klug, Robert Haussmann, and Hugo de Ruiter, producing furniture that balances technical precision with an unmistakable sense of ease. This chair reflects that philosophy—substantial yet understated, luxurious without excess.

Equally suited to a reading corner, library, or living space, it is a piece that rewards close attention. The leather carries the history of its making, while the silhouette allows the material itself to take centre stage. Chosen not simply for comfort, but for the way exceptional craftsmanship continues to reveal itself with time.
