Vintage Italian Wood and Black Lacquer Console with Glass Top

$3,400.00

An Italian console from the 1980s, where geometry is treated not as a fixed system, but as something to be shifted, offset, and rebalanced.

The composition is asymmetrical, built through the interplay of two distinct volumes. On one side, a vertical plane of warm-toned wood rises with solidity. Opposing it, a black lacquered structure folds inward, its stepped edges creating a sense of depth and rhythm. The contrast is immediate but controlled, mass against line, warmth against precision.

A glass top spans the two elements, resting lightly across them. Its transparency removes any sense of weight, allowing the base to remain fully visible, almost like a drawn form in space. The edges of the glass catch light subtly, reinforcing the horizontal plane without interrupting the openness of the structure beneath.

The black lacquer introduces a reflective, almost liquid surface. It absorbs and returns light differently throughout the day, sharpening the profile of the console while emphasizing its layered construction. In contrast, the wood remains steady and matte, grounding the composition with a quieter presence.

There is a deliberate tension in how the elements meet. The supports do not mirror one another; instead, they negotiate balance through offset alignment. The result feels architectural, as though a fragment of a larger structure has been distilled into a single, functional object.

Though compact in footprint, the piece carries a strong visual presence. It functions as both surface and statement: in an entryway, it defines arrival; against a wall, it becomes a moment of structure and pause.
