Vintage Mixed Media Portrait Painting on Paper

$250.00

A mixed media painting on paper that balances figuration and abstraction, depicting a solitary woman accompanied by a bird in a composition that feels both intimate and symbolic.

Rendered through layered mark-making and expressive line work, the figure emerges from a dark, atmospheric ground. The woman’s elongated form is reduced to essential contours, allowing gesture and silhouette to carry the narrative. Beside her, a small bird introduces a counterpoint—an enduring motif often associated with freedom, companionship, or reflection. Together, the two forms create a scene that feels less descriptive than poetic, inviting interpretation rather than resolution.

The palette of soft creams, muted violets, and charcoal tones lends the work a contemplative quality. Light seems to gather around the figure, drawing attention to her presence while allowing the surrounding darkness to remain active within the composition. The contrast between delicate color and confident line creates a sense of movement, as though the image exists somewhere between memory and imagination.

Signed and dated by the artist, the work retains the immediacy of the hand that made it. Presented within a dark frame that accentuates the depth of the composition, it possesses the character of a personal study elevated into a finished statement.
