Italian Modernist Mahogany Bookcase, 1950s

$7,400.00

An Italian modernist mahogany bookcase from the 1950s, defined by a broad rectangular frame and a rhythm of alternating compartments.

Three open tiers divide the interior, with vertical partitions shifting position between levels. Smaller bays flank a wide central opening at the top and bottom, while the middle tier is divided into two generous sections. This staggered arrangement gives the façade movement, creating a considered framework for books and objects.

Mahogany brings warmth to the precise geometry. Sweeping grain travels across the wooden back panels, moving through golden brown and deeper reddish tones. Within each compartment, the grain becomes a backdrop, adding visual depth even where the shelves remain empty.

Broad rectangular feet lift the case slightly above the floor, grounding it while leaving a narrow band of shadow beneath. The slim outer edges and uninterrupted top keep the silhouette composed, with a further surface for a lamp, ceramics, or a small collection.

DIMENSIONS: 49.25"W x 10.25"D x 38.5"H

ADDITIONAL DIMENSIONS: Depth of Shelves: 9.5"; Height of Bottom Shelf: 11 3/4"H; Middle & Top shelves: 9.75"

ORIGIN: Italy

PERIOD: 1950s

MATERIALS: Mahogany

CONDITION: Very good vintage condition, with a soft, natural patina to the mahogany, and light surface wear present, consistent with age and use. This bookcase has been thoughtfully restored by our restoration atelier with careful attention to match the existing stain and sheen.
