French Oak Two-Door Armoire in the Manner of Jean Royère, 1950s

$9,800.00

Made in France during the 1950s, this blonde oak armoire is defined by the geometric croisillon detailing across its two doors, a motif closely associated with the work of Jean Royère.

Slender applied oak rods intersect across the paneled fronts, punctuated by small square details that give the cabinet a distinctive rhythm. The warmth of the oak and softly rounded edges keep the geometry from feeling too formal.

Inside, the armoire retains its original fitted storage, with adjustable shelves and pull-out drawers on one side and a hanging compartment on the other. A mirror mounted to the interior of one door is a thoughtful detail that speaks to its original use as a wardrobe.

At just under six feet tall and nearly five feet wide, it has substantial storage without an overly imposing footprint. We’re especially drawn to the contrast between the restrained cabinet form and the more expressive croisillon doors, a detail that makes the piece interesting even when closed.
