French Brown Cerused Oak Cabinet, 1940s

$12,000.00

A French cabinet from the 1940s, sourced from an estate that included a number of pieces attributed to Jacques Quinet, and likely custom made for the interior.

The front reads as a continuous plane, where proportion and surface take precedence. The silhouette is deliberate—designed to sit easily within a room while still holding presence.

Crafted in cerused oak, the finish draws out the grain in pale contrast against the deep, rich brown ground. The process is labor-intensive, with the open grain worked to bring out the pattern, giving the surface a pronounced quality. Light catches along the raised veins, shifting as one moves around the piece.

Simple, carved wood handles sit at the center, integrated into the facade, while brass hinges punctuate the edges. Inside, the cabinet offers practical storage, but it is the exterior that defines it—measured and textural.

The scale allows it to adapt: in a living space, it anchors a wall; in a dining room, it holds service pieces; in a hallway, it becomes a point of arrival.
