French Modernist Siporex Sculpture Attributed to Roger Deslaef, 1970s

$1,800.00

An original Modernist sculpture attributed to French artist Roger Deslaef. Known for his Cubist-style sculptures, this layered abstract piece is composed of siporex, a concrete material made from a mixture of cement, sand, water, and aluminum powder.

Roger Deslaef (1925–2016), born in Puteaux, Hauts-de-Seine, dedicated his life to art. In 1950, he settled in Biot, where he forged friendships with notable artists such as Roland and Claude Brice, Hans Hedberg, Jean-Paul Chassin, and Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe. His artistic journey began with drawings, paintings, and sculptures.

By 1963, his work gained recognition with exhibitions at the Salon des Indépendants in Nice, showcasing pieces like "Le Cavalier" and "Goa." Over the years, he continued to create impactful sculptures and exhibited widely, including at the Palais de la Méditerranée, the Biot Tourist Office, and through collaborations such as the sculpture for the Wanson factories in Brussels. Throughout his career, Deslaef’s art reflected a deep engagement with themes of duality, emotion, and cultural exploration.
