French Rope Chandelier by Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet, 1970s

$3,800.00

A French rope chandelier by Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet, created in the 1970s. Six hand-wrapped rope shades extend from a sculptural framework of thick twisted cord, where oversized knots and sweeping curves transform a familiar material into something unexpectedly refined.

Rather than concealing its construction, every twist, splice, and wrap remains visible, celebrating the craftsmanship behind the piece. The natural rope softens the chandelier's generous scale, while the open-weave shades cast a warm, filtered light that highlights the texture of the fibers.

Equally at home in a coastal interior, mountain retreat, or contemporary space, it brings warmth, character, and a distinctly French approach to natural materials.

Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet were among the most distinctive voices in twentieth-century French design. Working first in Cannes and later in Golfe-Juan, they became known for transforming humble natural materials into sophisticated furniture and lighting.

Using rope, raffia, oak, and beech, the duo embraced craftsmanship over ornament, allowing braided fibers, hand wrapping, and visible joinery to define each piece. Their work feels both rustic and modern, balancing a sense of restraint with remarkable warmth.

Today, Audoux-Minet designs remain highly sought after for their inventive use of natural materials and their enduring ability to bring texture and character to an interior.
