French Wood + Fractionated Resin Chandelier by Maison Arlus, 1950s

$6,000.00

Made in France by Maison Arlus during the 1950s, this large-scale chandelier brings together an unusual mix of materials. Four fractured resin shades sit along a linear teak and brass frame, their heavily textured surfaces catching and diffusing the light with a warm, almost crystalline glow.

The construction is just as interesting as the shades themselves. Tapered teak elements run beneath each light and meet at the center with geometric brass fittings, giving the 44-inch-wide chandelier its long, low profile. The warmth of the teak and brass against the translucent resin is a combination that feels distinctly of the period.

Maison Arlus was known for experimenting with materials in its mid-century lighting, often pairing traditional metalwork with glass, resin, and wood. This chandelier is a particularly good example of that approach, and its generous scale makes it especially suited above a dining table or kitchen island.
