French Wrought Iron + Marble Top Coffee Table, 1940s
A French coffee table from the 1940s, defined by a stone top that appears to float above a finely articulated wrought iron frame.
The top is newly sourced black marble, threaded with espresso-toned veining that moves across its surface like slow geological currents—dark enough to absorb light, but alive with subtle variation that reveals itself only at angle and distance.
Beneath it, the wrought iron base hosts slender curved legs that rise and return in mirrored arcs, creating a rhythm of repetition. Forged irregularities remain visible in the metalwork, giving the frame a slight asymmetry that registers the presence of the maker’s hand.
A central stretcher ties the composition together, punctuated by turned details that introduce a measured cadence along its length. The iron carries a softened patina—darkened with age, worn at the edges—allowing the density of marble to be balanced.
