An Italian Art Deco desk or dining table, attributed to Osvaldo Borsani, crafted in walnut with parchment-clad details. The rectangular top reveals a diamond-patterned veneer, its grain radiating outward in geometric precision. Pedestal legs curve inward with architectural poise, wrapped in parchment that has mellowed to a warm honeyed tone, and grounded by ebonized bases.
The interplay of rich walnut and parchment reflects the era’s fascination with material contrast, hallmarks of Borsani’s early work. At once monumental and restrained, the table serves as a dining surface, commanding executive desk, or sculptural anchor in a modern interior.
Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was an Italian designer and architect born into a family of fine furniture makers. He studied fine arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan before pursuing architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. In 1943, he designed his own house in Varedo, Villa Borsani, which has since been preserved and now serves as an archive of his work.
