Italian Glass + Chrome Chandelier Attributed to Fontana Arte, 1960s

An Italian chandelier from the 1960s, attributed to Fontana Arte, the fixture is organized around a central chromed structure, surrounded by three substantial sheets of thick glass. Each panel curves outward from the frame, its rounded profile creating a sense of movement while the exposed green-tinted edges emphasize the weight and quality of the glass. 

Between them, three sheets of polished chromed metal curve in the opposite direction, creating an alternating rhythm of transparency and reflection.

Light is integrated throughout the structure. A bulb is housed within the central chromed tube, while three additional tubular elements each hold two bulbs, one directed upward and one downward. When illuminated, the multiple light sources move through the curved glass and reflect across the polished metal, producing a layered glow that changes as the chandelier is viewed from different angles.

The suspension is equally considered. A slender stem descends from a domed chrome canopy before transitioning into a pale curved rod, held by a cylindrical metal fitting and accompanied by the suspension cable. This slightly off-axis line introduces another graphic element above the compact, cylindrical body.

It is the relationship between materials that gives the chandelier its presence: heavy glass against thin, mirror-like metal; broad curves against a precise central framework; transparency against reflection.
