Italian Murano Glass Bowl in the Manner of Seguso, 1940s

$950.00

An Italian Murano glass bowl from the 1940s, in the manner of Seguso, with a rounded, lobed body and a fitted lid topped by a substantial glass finial. Thick, clear glass forms a sequence of vertical ribs that rise from the base toward a gently undulating rim.

These rounded sections give the bowl a petal-like silhouette, breaking reflections into flowing bands of light. Fine air bubbles are suspended throughout the body, gathering in repeated trails between the ribs. Their small, precise shapes contrast with the broad curves around them, introducing an intricate pattern within the material itself. Viewed closely, the overlapping bubbles and contours create shifting layers of reflection.

The low circular lid brings a quieter horizontal line to the composition. Above it, a rounded, ribbed knob echoes the bowl below, with elongated bubbles visible within its clear volume. This repetition gives the two parts a cohesive character, whether displayed closed or with the lid set alongside.

About Seguso
The Seguso family has shaped Murano glassmaking since the 14th century, but modern collectors mainly associate the name with two 20th-century firms: Seguso Vetri d’Arte and Vetreria Archimede Seguso. Seguso Vetri d’Arte flourished under designer Flavio Poli, whose modern forms, bold color experimentation, and innovations like sommerso and corroso became highly collectible.

Archimede Seguso, who founded his own workshop in 1946, focused on classical techniques reinterpreted through a modern lens, creating richly decorative yet refined works such as Losanghe and Merletto vessels. Together, these studios produced some of the most accomplished and influential glass designs of the modern era.
