'LP01' Brass + Brown Leather Armchair Lamp by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Azucena, 1970s

$4,500.00

The 'LP01' lamp was designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Azucena in 1970. Crafted to rest on the arm of a chair, it features a brown leather strap paired with a brass arm, swiveling shade, and switch. Its form is understated, yet luxurious, emanating a soft, diffused glow. Stamped ‘Azucena’ along the brass.

Founded in 1947 by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella, and Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua, Azucena began as a way to furnish the interiors of buildings the trio designed, but soon evolved into a business catering to postwar consumers. Borrowing its name from a character in Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Azucena’s furniture blends practicality with a playful edge, becoming a hallmark of Italian modernism.

The brand is known for bold, functional designs, from Vico Magistretti’s clean-lined coffee tables to Dominioni’s chunky, upholstered armchairs of the 1970s. Among its most iconic pieces is Dominioni’s minimalist Catalina chair, which debuted at the 1957 Milan Triennial and became an instant classic. Other enduring designs include the Monachella lamp, ABCD armchair, and Cilindro ottoman, all celebrated for their timeless appeal.

In 2018, Italian furniture manufacturer B&B Italia acquired Azucena and has since reintroduced several iconic designs from the brand’s celebrated portfolio.
