The ‘Pianura’ coffee table, designed by Mario Bellini for Cassina in 1972, takes its name from the Italian word for “flatland”—a fitting nod to its smooth, uninterrupted lines. Crafted from solid Italian walnut, its square silhouette, rich with natural graining, rests on four spherical gum feet. This piece functions as a coffee table or corner unit, coordinating with the 'Pianura' sofa set.

Mario Bellini (b. 1935) is an internationally renowned Italian architect and designer. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1959 and has received numerous accolades, including eight Compasso d’Oro awards and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement from the Triennale di Milano.
Bellini has designed iconic buildings worldwide, from museums and banks to galleries and convention centers. His work spans industrial and furniture design, with collaborations including B&B Italia, Cassina, and Heller Furniture. MoMA holds 25 of his designs in its permanent collection.
