A rare Italian 'Virgin' six-light chandelier from the 1970s by Jean François Crochet for Terzani.

The chandelier’s bronze-finished metal framework rises from a central sphere, with slender arms looping and crossing beneath six individual lights. The expressive, elongated forms give the piece a sense of gesture, more like a drawing suspended in space than a traditional chandelier.

Each light is fitted with a hand-shaped scavo Murano glass shade, softly diffusing the illumination into a warm, amber glow. The irregular surfaces of the glass bring a tactility to the graphic structure, allowing the light itself to become part of the composition.

At the center, an amethyst finial provides a note of color, suspended beneath the bronze sphere like a small jewel. It is a detail that rewards closer inspection, contrasting with the darker metal and translucent glass.

Hung above a dining table, or in an entry, it becomes less a source of light and more a focal point, an atmospheric object that shapes the space around it.

Jean-François Crochet (b. 1949) is a French designer known for creating atmospheric lighting and interiors that combine historical references with contemporary design. After establishing himself in Paris as a designer of fashion boutiques, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, he met Sergio Terzani in 1985 and soon joined Terzani, where they developed lighting guided by the philosophy of _la luce pensata_—"thinking about light."

His first design for Terzani, Antinea, paired wrought iron, Murano glass, and pietra serena sandstone, reflecting his appreciation for timeless materials and craftsmanship. This sensibility continued in later collections such as Tresor, introduced in 2007, whose shimmering metal discs evoke hidden treasure while transforming light into an element of warmth, movement, and character.
