The 'Bambole' lounge chair was designed in 1972 by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia as part of the Le Bambole series. Defined by the naturalness of its shape, its sculptural form appears to lack a traditional supporting structure, evoking a perfect balance of comfort and softness. This chair retains its original blue upholstery. The iconic design was honored with the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award in 1979.

Mario Bellini (1935–) is an internationally renowned Italian architect + designer. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1959 and has received accolades in a variety of design fields, including the Compasso d’Oro award eight times and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the Triennale di Milano. 

Bellini has designed numerous famous buildings around the world, from museums to banks, galleries + convention centers. His works range from industrial design to furniture design. Bellini collaborated with a number of companies including B&B Italia, Cassina + Heller Furniture; the New York MoMA has 25 of his works in their permanent collection.
