Cognac Leather Swan Sofa Model 3321 by Arne Jacobsen, Denmark 20th Century

$10,800.00

A Danish Modern Swan Sofa Model 3321 designed by Arne Jacobsen in the 20th Century. This design quickly gained acclaim when it debuted at the opening of the Royal SAS Hotel in Copenhagen in 1958. As the principal architect and designer for the innovative hotel, Jacobsen created some of his most iconic furniture pieces for the project.

Influenced by Jacobsen’s architectural background, this two-seat sofa has fluid lines and a sculptural presence. It features a minimalistic, double pedestal aluminum base and biomorphic frame constructed of smooth, cognac leather. The edges of the seat effortlessly curve to form arms and a backrest, reminiscent of a swan's silhouette. Denmark, 20th Century.

Born in Copenhagen in 1902, Arne Jacobsen studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of the Arts and went on to become one of Denmark’s most famous architects and designers. Under the influence of Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Jacobsen began incorporating his construction quality into furniture designs. Jacobsen’s pieces are iconic examples of the striking aesthetic of designers from the 20th Century, along with their commitment to practicality and comfort. His expansive, diverse body of work has left lasting imprints on both furniture design and architecture internationally.
