French Art Deco Glass Pendant by Degué, 1930s

$5,800.00

A French Art Deco pendant by Degué, created in the 1930s, where geometry and light are brought together with remarkable precision.

The stepped glass shade is composed as a series of receding tiers, each one drawing the eye inward before culminating in a polished finial below. Cast in a soft blush pink, the glass tempers the architectural form with warmth, diffusing light into a gentle glow that shifts throughout the day. Signed by Degué, the piece reflects the atelier's mastery of moulded glass and its enduring contribution to the Art Deco movement.

Nickel-plated metalwork provides a crisp counterpoint to the satin finish of the glass. The suspension allows the shade to remain the focus, emphasizing its silhouette whether illuminated or at rest.

Suspended above a dining table, within an entry, or as the focal point of a more intimate room, the pendant lends a sense of rhythm and permanence to its surroundings.

Degué was the Parisian art glass firm founded by David Guéron (1892–1950), a Turkish-born French entrepreneur and central figure of Art Deco glass. Established in 1926, the workshop produced lighting and decorative objects defined by bold geometry, layered glass, and experimental surface treatments, with works typically signed Degué.

Widely commissioned for cinemas, ocean liners, and modernist interiors—including the French liner Normandie—Degué became a benchmark of interwar French decorative arts.
