French Regency Style Iron + Glass Top Console, 1930s
A French iron console from the 1930s.
The composition begins with a slender glass top, its transparency allowing the structure beneath to remain fully visible. The eye is drawn immediately to the iron base, where a series of flowing curves intersect at the center, forming a symmetrical motif that feels as much drawn as constructed.
Crafted in iron, the base reflects the enduring influence of French Regency design. The sweeping forms create movement across the length of the console, introducing a sense of lightness. Each curve resolves into slender legs capped with understated feet, grounding the piece.
The glass top contributes to this balance of weight and transparency. Its clean surface allows light to pass through uninterrupted, casting subtle shadows from the ironwork below and changing throughout the day. The result is a piece that occupies space without overwhelming it.
