French Purple + Blue Glazed Ceramic Pointed Bowl, 1960s

$600.00

A French ceramic bowl, handmade in Vallauris, the picturesque seaside village in the South of France renowned for its pottery. Created in the 1960s and signed by the maker, the piece reflects the expressive, experimental character that emerged during a period when Vallauris became a center for ceramic innovation.

The elongated form rises gently at each end, giving the bowl a sense of movement even at rest. Its silhouette feels almost elemental—closer to a folded landscape or vessel shaped by water than a strictly decorative object. Across the surface, layers of purple and blue glaze shift into one another with an iridescent depth, revealing subtle variations in tone and texture as the light changes throughout the day.

The heavily textured exterior carries the imprint of the maker’s hand, with carved linear patterns running continuously across the body. These markings create rhythm within the glaze, allowing darker tones to settle into the recesses while lighter blues catch along the raised edges. The result is both tactile and atmospheric, balancing raw materiality with refinement.
