Italian Bronze Female Torso Sculpture on Wood Base Attributed to Ferronato, 1970s

$5,800.00

A 1970s bronze sculpture attributed to Swiss sculptor Cesare Ferronato. This abstracted female torso evokes the human form through softened contours and curved edges, its surface alive with subtle tooling and a deep, mottled patina.

Cast in bronze and mounted on a weighty block of solid wood, the piece is sensual without being literal—a balance between gesture and mass. Standing 13.5” tall, it anchors easily on a console, bookshelf, or marble plinth.

Cesare Ferronato (1927–2025) was a Swiss artist known for his abstracted interpretations of the human form, working primarily in stone, bronze, and drawing. Born in Interlaken to Italian parents from Padua, he began learning traditional casting and restoration techniques from his father as a child.

He later studied at the School of Applied Arts and the Academy in Florence, training under renowned sculptors including Manzù, Marini, and Poncet during his travels through Italy and France.

From 1958 onward, Ferronato taught at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich, where he also founded a pioneering course in stone sculpture. His personal studio in Höngg became the center of a prolific, decades-long practice dedicated to material and form.
