Italian Walnut Desk by Gianfranco Frattini for Bernini, 1956

An Italian desk designed in 1956 by Gianfranco Frattini for Bernini, crafted in warm, richly toned walnut. The rectangular top rests on a sculpted trestle base, its angled supports and central stretcher echoing Frattini’s early training in architecture.

Four shallow drawers run the length of the front, each fitted with a round pull and original brass lock. Two working keys accompany the piece. Well-proportioned and thoughtfully crafted, it anchors a study, office, or entryway.

Gianfranco Frattini (1926–2004) emerged from Milan’s Polytechnic University as an architect before turning to design—initially creating furniture and lighting to fill the interiors he was building. By the mid-1950s, he was shaping the language of Italian modernism, co-founding ADI in 1956 and collaborating with leading manufacturers such as Cassina, Bernini, Acerbis, Artemide, and Knoll.

A frequent presence at the Milan Triennale and an early collaborator of Gio Ponti, Frattini is celebrated for designs that merge precision, craftsmanship, and an architectural approach to form.
