Black 'Dilly Dally' Vanity Table + Stool by Luigi Massoni for Poltrona Frau, 1968

$10,000.00

A rare vanity set from the 'Dilly Dally' series, designed by Luigi Massoni for Poltrona Frau in 1968. Crafted as a modular system, the cylindrical table and chair interlock seamlessly into a single, sculptural volume when closed.

The exterior is clad in smooth black leather, wrapping the form in a continuous outer shell. When opened, the interior reveals a contrasting ivory finish and a molded plastic vanity basin fitted with integrated compartments. A hinged circular mirror rises from the tabletop, echoing the geometry of the piece itself.

The accompanying chair mirrors the same barrel-like silhouette, upholstered in black leather with a generously padded circular seat and curved backrest. Subtle tufting and gathered detailing soften the form, while steel castors allow both elements to move effortlessly within a space. Finished with the original Poltrona Frau plaque at the base.

The Dilly Dally reflects Massoni’s interest in modular living—where furniture adapts, conceals, and transforms. Both playful and precise, this vanity module reads as a self-contained interior landscape, equal parts dressing table, seating, and sculpture.

Luigi Massoni (1930-2013) was a prolific Italian designer who worked as an architect, designer, freelance journalist and consultant. He trained at the Collettivo di Architettura in Milan and worked with iconic Italian brands such as Poltrona Frau, the Guzzini group and Alessi. Massoni was the editor and director of Marmo Tecnica Architettura from 1956-1963. He founded a magazine called Mobile Italiano and later Mobilia, an Italian furniture and design association.
