French Art Deco Oak Sideboard Attributed to Charles Dudouyt, 1940s

$14,000.00

A French Art Deco Brutalist oak sideboard from the 1940s, attributed to Charles Dudouyt. Spanning over six feet in width, the elongated rectangular form is grounded by subtly splayed legs that lend the piece a sense of weight and architectural stability, an unmistakable hallmark of Dudouyt’s design language.

The façade is considered with confident symmetry: three central drawers punctuated by round metal pulls are flanked by two cabinet doors carved in bold geometric relief. The doors open to reveal generous interior shelving, while the drawers provide practical storage above. An original key accompanies the piece, underscoring its authenticity and period integrity.

Crafted from solid French oak, the sideboard displays Dudouyt’s devotion to material honesty and hand craftsmanship. The deeply carved panels, chamfered edges, and expressive grain reflect his belief that furniture should be both robust and sculptural. These objects of daily use should be imbued with presence and character.

Rooted in the French Art Deco and Brutalist traditions, this sideboard stands as a commanding yet refined statement, equally suited to a dining room, living space, or grand entryway.
