Rare French Bird Motif Bronze Coffee Table by Maison Malabert, 1970s
Crafted in bronze with a floating glass top, a rare French coffee table by Maison Malabert from the 1970s.
The table’s defining detail is the stylized bird form suspended beneath the glass. Rendered in curved bronze lines, the motif gives the otherwise restrained silhouette a sense of movement and lightness, almost like a drawing traced through the center of the table.
The contrast between the sharp geometry of the frame and the softer arc of the bird keeps the piece feeling distinctly French—elegant, graphic, and a little playful. Over time, the bronze has developed a softened patina that warms the metal and gives the surface more depth.
Viewed from above, the composition becomes especially striking, with the transparency of the glass allowing the sculptural form to remain fully visible. Paired with heavier upholstery or darker woods, it introduces a lighter, more open presence within a room.
