A Spanish brass table lamp from the 1970s, designed by Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá for Polinax.

The lamp is defined by an architectural brass frame, with a rectangular central stem flanked by two slender vertical supports. At the base, the supports sweep outward in broad curves before meeting a square brass plinth, creating an open framework of straight lines and arcs.

Two opposing sockets extend from the upper stem beneath a wide black drum shade. The shade gives the lamp a strong horizontal profile and a sharp contrast against the warm, aged brass. A finely knurled brass finial completes the top.

The construction changes considerably depending on the angle from which it is viewed. From the front, the frame appears narrow and linear; from the side, the curved supports and projecting sockets reveal the depth and complexity of the design.

Correa and Milá were closely associated with the development of modern design in Barcelona, and the lamp reflects their architectural approach to furniture and interiors. Its unusual open frame, curved brass supports and broad shade give it a strong presence on a console, side table or desk.

About Federico Correa & Alfonso Milá
Federico Correa (1924–2020) and Alfonso Milá (1924–2009) were Spanish architects and designers whose decades-long partnership helped shape the modern character of Barcelona and Cadaqués. Friends from childhood, they studied architecture together in Barcelona and worked in the studio of José Antonio Coderch before establishing their own practice in 1953.

Moving fluidly between architecture, interiors, and furniture, they developed an approach grounded in rationality while remaining warm, expressive, and attentive to how spaces were actually lived in. Their work ranged from private houses in Cadaqués to some of Barcelona’s most recognizable interiors, including the Flash-Flash and Il Giardinetto restaurants, as well as larger architectural projects such as the renovation of Plaça Reial and the Olympic Ring of Montjuïc.

Their furniture and lighting followed the same philosophy, combining clarity of form with comfort and ease; notable designs include the Barceloneta armchair of 1953 and the Cadaqués seating collection of 1959. Together, Correa and Milá created a distinctly Mediterranean expression of modern design—refined but informal, with architecture, furniture, color, and material conceived as parts of a unified interior.
