Belgian Cast Bronze Two-Tier Coffee Table Attributed to Willy Daro, 1970s

$7,000.00

A Belgian coffee table from the 1970s, attributed to Willy Daro, where furniture approaches the language of art.

Composed of two floating glass tiers, the form is held aloft by cast bronze supports that curve upward with an almost organic rhythm. Their crescent-like silhouettes create a sense of movement beneath the glass, balancing weight with lightness in a way that became characteristic of Belgian design during the period.

The upper oval surface offers a generous plane, while the lower tier introduces both function and depth, allowing the composition to feel layered rather than purely practical. The contrast between the patinated bronze and the clean transparency of the glass gives the piece its drama, each material heightening the qualities of the other.

Every angle reveals a different relationship between the cast bronze forms and the floating glass, encouraging the piece to be experienced in the round rather than from a single viewpoint.

Willy Daro, born in Belgium in 1918, was known for his botanical and floral sculptural forms, as well as his integration of Brutalist style with luxurious natural materials such as fossils and minerals. He founded his factory, Les Nouveaux Ateliers Willy Daro, in Brussels in the early 1960s, where he created sophisticated furniture and decor until 1987.
