Italian Glass Dome Pendant by Ludovico Diaz de Santillana for VeArt, 1970s

$3,200.00

An Italian glass dome pendant from the 1970s, designed by Ludovico Diaz de Santillana for VeArt.

The shade is formed in mold-blown glass, its surface wrapped in soft, horizontal bands of warm beige, taupe, and amber tones. The striations move gently around the form, giving the dome a sense of depth—almost like layers in sediment or stone.

Suspended from a simple cord and canopy, the composition is pared back, allowing the glass to take focus. When lit, the etched surface diffuses the light into a warm, even glow, drawing out the tonal variation within the glass rather than overwhelming it.

Ludovico Diaz de Santillana (1931–1989) was an Italian architect and designer who played a key role in shaping modern Murano glass. As artistic director of Venini, he collaborated with figures such as Tobia Scarpa, helping to move Venetian glass toward a more restrained, architectural language.

His work often focused on surface treatment and tone—using techniques like acid etching and layered color to create depth without excess. His designs for VeArt reflect this same sensibility, where material and light are allowed to lead.
