Italian Hand-Forged Wrought Iron Sconce Attributed to Longobard No. 02, 1970s

A rare Italian wall sconce from the 1970s, attributed to Longobard.

Rising two fee tall, the form is vertical and composed, centered around a column of hammered glass that diffuses light into a soft, rippled glow. The glass carries subtle irregularities—each undulation catching and bending the light—so that illumination feels atmospheric rather than direct.

Encasing it, a hand-forged wrought iron frame unfolds in a series of delicate scrolls. The metalwork is both graphic and expressive, its linear rhythm punctuated by small circular elements in warm amber tones. These accents introduce color and a luminosity of their own, echoing the glow within the glass while extending the composition outward.

The craftsmanship remains visible, and even decorative gestures feel intentional. The iron bears the marks of forging, subtle variations that give the sconce a sense of movement and life.

Placed in a hallway, it creates a vertical moment of light. It is an object that doesn’t just illuminate, but defines the wall around it.
