Italian Mahogany Bookcase by Vittorio Parigi & Nani Prina for Rimadesio, 1960s

$2,600.00

A petite Italian bookcase designed by Vittorio Parigi and Nani Prina for Rimadesio in the 1960s. The structure is composed of thick, curved glass side panels that frame a warm mahogany back panel and shelves, creating an interplay between transparency and rich natural material.

The substantial 1-inch thick glass shelf and sides provide both structural clarity and visual lightness, allowing the mahogany surfaces to appear suspended within the transparent frame. Slender horizontal wooden rails introduce a subtle linear rhythm while reinforcing the piece’s architectural balance.

Compact in scale yet striking in presence, the bookcase is a storage piece well suited for books, objects, or display.

Vittorio Parigi (1926–1997) was an Italian architect and designer known for his contributions to modern Italian furniture during the postwar period. Trained as an architect, Parigi approached furniture with a strong structural sensibility, often emphasizing clarity of form and innovative use of materials such as glass, metal, and wood. His work frequently explored the relationship between transparency and solidity, producing pieces that feel both engineered and elegant.

Nani Prina (1925–1986) was an Italian designer and architect who collaborated extensively with Parigi on a range of furniture and interior projects. Their partnership produced several notable designs for Italian manufacturers during the 1950s and 1960s, characterized by refined proportions and a modernist restraint. Together, Parigi and Prina helped shape the language of mid-century Italian furniture, blending architectural rigor with a sensitivity to material and craft.
