Self Portrait by Maxine Snider, 1992

A large scale acrylic on canvas painting by Chicago artist Maxine Snider, 1992.

Artist Bio: Maxine Snider is a Chicago artist and designer, with a degree from the University of Michigan’s School of Art. Following a long and successful career in design, Maxine now devotes her time exclusively to her fine art practice in a studio in River North.

In the artist's words about her process, "When I paint, I travel to a place of fantasy, memory, invention, and illusion. I'm thinking about the duality of the sensory life and the logical life, the mystery and magic of childhood, and the essence of feelings and actions. In the process, I am only a player. The painting makes its own way, and I follow, guiding and polishing, letting the paint squiggle and drip, erase or mystify.”

She produced this piece for a solo exhibition of her work in the 1990s.
