French Iron + Ceramic Coffee Table by Jacques Adnet and Guidette Carbone, 1950s

$4,800.00

A French iron and ceramic coffee table by Jacques Adnet and Guidette Carbonell from the 1950s. Created during their rare and inspired collaboration, the piece unites Adnet’s disciplined, architectural sensibility with Carbonell’s expressive ceramic artistry.

The rectangular top is composed of hand-painted ceramic tiles by Carbonell, each alive with stylized birds and foliage in richly saturated tones set against a dark ground. The painterly surface carries the warmth and individuality of the artist’s hand, while the grid of tiles introduces a subtle rhythm and structure.

Supporting the top is Adnet’s restrained iron frame. Its blackened metal arcs intersect in a poised, architectural base, demonstrating the designer’s mastery of line and proportion. The interplay between the lyrical ceramic decoration and the rigor of the iron structure reflects the distinctive balance achieved in their 1950s partnership: artistry grounded by modernist clarity.
