French Art Deco Walnut Sideboard, 1940s

$8,200.00

A French Art Deco sideboard from the 1940s, composed with the confidence that defines the period’s most enduring work.
Clad in bookmatched walnut veneer, the façade unfolds in a mirrored grain pattern that turns the natural figure of the wood into ornament. The symmetry is deliberate, allowing the richness of the walnut to carry the visual weight. Light moves across the surface differently throughout the day, revealing layers of depth within the veneer and emphasizing the precision of its construction.

The form is low and balanced, characteristic of French Art Deco interiors where proportion was valued as highly as decoration. Rather than relying on excessive embellishment, the piece draws attention through subtle details and carefully considered craftsmanship.

At the center of each door sits a carved round medallion pull, its floral rosette motif introducing a visual element against the linear geometry of the cabinet. The carved pulls soften the architecture of the piece, creating a dialogue between organic ornament and disciplined form—a hallmark of the era.

Equally suited to a dining room, living space, or entry hall, the sideboard offers both presence and utility. The broad expanse of walnut anchors a room, while the rhythmic repetition of grain and carving rewards closer inspection.
