French Iron Triangular Lantern Pendant, 1920s

$3,200.00

An antique French lantern from the late 1920s, where early Deco geometry meets the hand of the ironworker, structure and ornament held in quiet tension.

The form is defined by a sharply tapered, triangular body, its lines clean and deliberate. Frosted glass panels sit within the frame, softening the geometry from within, diffusing light into a muted, even glow. The silhouette is architectural, almost faceted, recalling the emerging language of Art Deco as it moved toward clarity and restraint.

Against this precision, the ironwork introduces something more tactile. Hand-forged floral elements emerge in low relief, petals and leaves shaped individually, then applied to the surface. They are not symmetrical or overly refined; instead, they carry the slight irregularities of the hand, giving the piece a quiet sense of movement and life.

The suspension continues this dialogue. Slender rods extend upward, punctuated by small, worked details that echo the organic forms below. At the crown, the metal opens into a subtle flourish, as if the structure itself is beginning to bloom.

What defines the lantern is this balance of geometry grounded by craft, ornament restrained by form. The glass holds and diffuses the light, while the iron frames and shapes it, creating a composition that feels both controlled and expressive.

When lit, the effect is gentle and contained. The frosted panels glow from within, while the darker ironwork remains in silhouette, its details revealed gradually as light shifts across the surface.
