Italian Art Deco Murano Glass Pendant with Braided Detailing Attributed to Barovier & Toso, 1940s
A rare Art Deco Murano glass pendant attributed to the esteemed Barovier & Toso atelier in the 1940s. The frosted glass body takes on an inverted tulip form, wrapped in clear braided glass ribbons that lend the piece dimension and movement.
Suspended from a twisted glass stem and scalloped canopy, the composition celebrates the studio’s mastery of light, texture, and traditional glassworking techniques. Finished with a fluted brass finial, the piece glows warmly when lit, casting delicate shadows across its sculpted surface.
The Barovier dynasty traces its roots to 1295, when Jacobello Barovier, a master glassblower, began transforming molten sand and minerals into incandescent works of art. For centuries, the family maintained its legacy, crafting exquisite glass pieces until the mid-20th century, when it merged with another renowned glassworks to become Barovier & Toso. This evolution reflects a commitment to artistry and tradition that endures to this day.
